Yu Yu Za Zang is a hidden gem in Oakland. This was my first time having Korean food of this nature. On a weekday, it wasn't packed at all. There was plenty of seats. The waiter was very nice and patient with us. He explained to us the dishes. Portions are MASSIVE. I did the half and half and got to bounce between the flavors of two dishes.

    Order:
-Half zazang myun: Upon looking at it, you might wonder what in the world. When tasting it, it's out of this world. The black bean sauce helped make the noodles very creamy. It doesn't taste like bean, but has such a unique flavor. The noodles were cooked very well.
-Half zampong: The seafood noodle soup was delicious. It had a great kick to it. It had a generous portion of seafood and vegetables. The broth was very flavorful.
-Tang su yuk: The dish was steaming hot when it came out. I most definitely burned my tongue while eating it. It was crispy and chewy. There's a sweet and sour sauce where you dipped that pork in it. The sauce had many veggies inside.

We were stuffed by the end. Thanks for such a wonderful experience! I can't wait to recommend in the future!

Yu Yu knows the way to my heart!

This was a completely unexpected pleasant surprise, and a true hidden gem in Oakland.

There were about six of us looking for a great lunch place when we all decided that we wanted really good Chinese food. We happened upon Yu Yu's, and we are also glad that we discovered this great place.

Parking is absolutely impossible as it is and most of the area, so just be patient, find a place, and he won't be sorry that you did.

The restaurant is closer to a hole in the wall size, and seats about 30... Kind of like the love shack...
There is a table that could accommodate the six of us and we just decided to order enough to make it a family style proper meal.

Let me just say, everything on the menu sounds absolutely amazing. We really wanted to try the dumplings that we eye spied at the adjacent tables, but we were going for a pork free meal.  Definitely make it one of your Must tries.

The sweet-and-sour chicken was absolutely delicious. It was perfectly cooked, moist, and was not overly dressed with sweet-and-sour sauce. The chow mein... Oh that great chow mein! The noodles were perfect. The ingredients fresh and tasty. The spicy soup that we ordered was a feast all onto itself. It was like the sea had come to life with the large amounts of seafood, veggies and that wonderful broth.

Make this a must stop a must try when you're in the area. Since the dining area is small feel free to ask for food to go but chances are you'll find a place to sit without any problem. Just remember to get those dumplings! They are definitely a must!!

I think we might have come at a good time because the restaurant was packed, which means good turnover for food. The tangsuyuk (fried pork with sweet sauce) came out piping hot and super crispy. There were quite a few pieces with batter only, but I'm willing to let that go because even those pieces were good.

I got the half spicy seafood soup/half black bean sauce noodles, which you see in so many Yelp photos. It is a HUGE portion. This with the tangsuyuk put me over the top, so I suggest you actually share these two dishes with another person (instead of each person getting their own dish).

The restaurant was packed and there was only one lady serving but she did a good job getting everything we needed.

Chinese girl here. Hate to dishonor my own peoples, but the truth needs to come out. I like Korean jjajangmyeon more than Chinese zha jiang mian.

Maybe it's all the mukbang I watch, but once I start to crave it, there is no force of nature that can stop me.

Word on the street is that Yu Yu Za Zang has THE BEST jjajangmyeon in the Bay. I'm pretty sure whoever said that and I can be pretty good friends :)

I frickin am OBSESSED with the jjajangmyeon here. The noodles are at my ideal thickness (I hate it when they're too thin) so thank you Yu Yu. Get the spicy or stick with the regular, they're equally delicious and DIRT CHEAP (~$9). They're not stingy with the noodles either.

I also cannot forget how AMAZING the jjamppong was here. Definitely spicy but with just the right amount of kick. I always do halfsies on the jjamppong and jjajangmyeon because I like to spice it up with some variety.

3 hours after Yu Yu .... I'm PARCHED and need to chug water like there's no tomorrow. That's the sign of a delicious jjajangmyeon I guess.

Yu Yu Za Zang is a pretty good place for Korean (chinese food influenced) food. It was not the best I have had, but I think it is the best place I have found in the East Bay.

I ordered a jjajangmyun (black bean noodles) and tangsuyook (fried pork in sweet and sour sauce). The noodles tasted good and I loved how large the portions were. We got it in the spicy black bean sauce and it was ok, not the best one I have ever tried. I would suggest getting the regular black bean noodle and just add hot chili flakes to taste. The fried pork was freshly fried and also came in a large portion. The portions are large enough for sharing. I suggest you get the sweet and sour sauce on the side to maintain the crunchiness of the meat. Good size for a good price!

The interior is not too big nor too large, and it is a good place to dine with family or a small group of friends. I would love to come back and try the other items on their menu!
